Reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 Emissions
GELITA reports its greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, considering both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Scope 1 includes direct emissions from combustion processes at GELITA's own facilities, while Scope 2 refers to indirect emissions from purchased electricity, heat, and steam.
Over the years, GELITA has made continuous improvements in reducing these emissions. Between 2020 and 2023, the company achieved an overall decrease of almost 12% in specific greenhouse gas emissions, which translates to a projected reduction of almost 50% in CO2 emissions by 2030. By 2045, we aim to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and 2, including offsetting).
Clusters Contributing to Our Net-Zero Target
GELITA is committed to continuously improving its environmental performance, tracking emissions, and implementing measures to reduce its carbon footprint. The following clusters contribute to our target.

Calculating Scope 3 Emissions
GELITA acknowledges the challenge of recording and calculating Scope 3 emissions, which encompass indirect emissions upstream and downstream of their business activities. We are actively working with our association, the Gelatine Manufacturers of Europe, to find a practical solution for this.
Reducing Waste
In addition to greenhouse gas emissions, GELITA also considers waste as emissions. Although the amount of waste to be disposed of has remained fairly constant over the long term, GELITA aims to reduce waste in line with its sustainability goals and is exploring potential strategies.
