Collagen peptides – GELITA specialties with outstanding properties.
The raw material for collagen peptides – as for gelatine – is collagen protein. Collagen peptides, however, are relatively small molecules with a molecular weight of less than 10,000 g/mole. The peptides comprise at least 2 and at most 100 amino acids. They are characterized by excellent cold water solubility and even in highly concentrated solutions they do not form a gel. Their nutritional and physiological advantages for the health of joints and skin have been demonstrated in numerous scientific studies.
The amino acid composition of collagen peptides is the same as that of collagen. Its main characteristics are a high concentration of glycine as well as hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine (that only occur collagen). With the exception of tryptophan, they contain all the essential amino acids.
