Gelatine is much used in the textile industry. It protects material from damage during processing. During the dyeing process, the gelatine envelopes the individual fibers. It also acts as a sort of lubricant and ensures that the fibers do not break in spite of very high weaving and dyeing speeds. The protective envelopes are then washed out after processing. The gelatine envelopes have excellent binding properties but also have the great advantage of being biologically degradable.
