GELITA® Gelatine preserves cultural treasures.

When it comes to restoring historical buildings, much patience is required - but often gelatine too. More and more experts are now using the natural, elastic binding qualities of GELITA® special gelatines to treat the surfaces of valuable artistic stucco work. In fine trowel work, warm gelatine is applied to the surface with a fine brush between the various sanding sessions before being processed further. Two famous applications of our special gelatines are the now fully restored Semper Opera in Dresden and the Pont Alexandre III – the longest bridge in Paris.

In the area of book restoration gelatine fulfills a number of requirements. Paper has been manufactured from wood pulp since the middle of the 19th century. However, in numerous cases, the acid wood glue then used is now beginning to become brittle in archives and libraries. Gelatine is therefore being used as a "natural adhesive" to restore such damaged pages or to re-glue. In addition, gelatine can be used to fix colors and letters of historical texts. The famous sheet music from Dresden that was severely damaged by the catastrophic floods of 2002 were able to be fully restored with the help of gelatine.
