Due to the fact that the peptide chains are slowly decomposed, the nitrogen released can be carefully controlled over a longer period of time; this has a positive influence on the metabolic mechanisms of the plant. Special gelatines and gelatine hydrolysates are used as biologically degradable binding agents in the manufacture of fertilizer pellets.
